Graduation Requirements

If you are planning to attend a UC or CSU after high school, it is imperative that you complete the A-G requirements and pass your classes with a grade of C or better.  Keep in mind that you MUST complete 11 A-G courses by the end of your junior year.  Attached you will find a copy of the A-G classes offered at RHS.

A-G Requirements

What is cumulative GPA?

Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) refers to the overall GPA, which includes dividing the number of quality points earned in all courses attempted by the total degree-credit hours in all attempted courses.

How is it different from term or semester GPA?

Your semester / term GPA is your Grade Point Average for that one term or semester. Your cumulative GPA is you grade point average for all attempted courses in the program.

How cumulative GPA is calculated?
Basically you have to add up all subjects taken so far in every semester and take the weighted average of each semester.

Fresno Area Night

Normally takes place at the Fresno Convention Center.  However, this year the event will take place virtually and it is a great opportunity to get more information on financial aid, college/university admissions, and college planning.

Coast to Coast College Tours

UC Berkeley, Dartmouth, Northwestern, Princeton and Vanderbilt have gotten together to put on a virtual event on August 30th at 3 pm. The Coast to Coast program is intended to be an introduction to each of the institutions, as well as discussion on holistic admission, financial aid and admission in the time of COVID.  Please use this link to register for this event.

If you are serious about college, you should end the year with a completed checklist

• Enroll in college preparatory courses at Reedley High School
• Enroll in classes that expand your horizons and take you out of your comfort zone; Academic Decathlon, AVID, Band, Choir, Drama, NJROTC, etc.
• When possible, explore colleges via the internet – California State Universities (CSU), Universities of California (UC) and Private Schools.
• Visit and explore fastweb.com for scholarships and www.calstateapply.com for help planning for college.
• Become familiar with the A-G Requirements for entrance to a 4 year institution.
• Enter essay contests, speech contests, apply for scholarships, internships and summer programs.
• Get involved in extracurricular activities – clubs, sports and take leadership roles.
• Volunteer in your community – church, hospital, fire department, family business, library or school.
• Study hard and do well in school to be competitive when applying to college – from now on your grades will count toward college and will show up on your permanent record/transcript.
• Start to attend virtual events on college campuses (plays, concerts, sporting events, activities related to the field of study you are interested in, college tours, etc.)
• Get to know your high school counselor and let her know your college and/or career goals, etc. Your parents may want to be included!!!
• Talk to your friends about what they plan to do after high school or college. 
• Become informed and empowered!

• Take the PSAT Test in the Fall  (Sign-ups are in September) as a practice for when it really counts, next year!
• Enroll in classes that expand your horizons and take you out of your comfort zone; Academic Decathlon, AVID, Band, Choir, Drama, NJROTC, Wood, Fashion and Design, etc. Remember that colleges are looking for well-rounded students.
• When possible, explore colleges via the internet – California State Universities (CSU), Universities of California (UC) and Private Schools.
• When possible, visit and explore www.fastweb.com for scholarships and www.csumentor.com for help planning for college.
• Visit the RHS Career Center and sign-up for presentations or workshops.
• Become familiar with the A-G Requirements for entrance to a 4 year institution.
• Get a job (Even if you are not looking to make money it’s about building a strong resume that shows your work ethic).
• Enter essay, speech contests, science fairs/contests for scholarships and awards.
• Get involved in extracurricular activities to build a strong resume– clubs and sports and take leaderships roles!
• Volunteer in your community – church, hospital, fire department, family business, library or school and take leadership roles!
• Study hard and do well in school to be competitive when applying to college – from now on your grades will count toward college and will show up on your permanent record/transcript.
• Attend Fresno Area College Night hosted in September and it’s FREE!
• Get to know your high school counselor (Mr. Chapa) and let him get to know you and your college and/or career goals, etc. Your parents may want to be included!
• Talk to your friends and family about your future goals. Sometimes we learn things from those conversations that we would not have thought about on our own.

• This year’s academic grades will go a long way toward either helping or hurting your chances of gaining admission to your school of choice. You can make up ground if you’ve been slacking or you can keep up the hard work you’ve already exhibited.
• Take solid elective courses (extra Math, Science, World Language, Social Sciences, etc.)
• Take the PSAT Test in the Fall (Sign-ups are in September) If you have already taken the test, check your score for weaknesses and study, Study, STUDY for the actual SAT in the Spring! (COVID19 is not allowing for the test to administered at RHS)
• Take the ACT/SAT in the Spring of your Junior Year! (if testing is permitted)
• If you are enrolled in an AP Course and even if you are not, you are welcomed to pay and take the AP Test(s) in May.
• Reminder: most colleges require a placement test for English and Math, be ready!
• Research possible colleges and request or download information from them – Community Colleges, California State Universities (CSU), Universities of California (UC) and Private Schools.
• If you haven’t done so already, visit the college(s) you are interested in attending – believe it or not they keep track of who is visiting them physically and virtually!
• When possible, visit and explore fastweb.com for scholarships and www.csumentor.com for help planning for college.
• Visit the RHS Career Center and sign-up for presentations or workshops.

• Continue to be involved in extracurricular activities now more than ever– clubs, electives, (like NJROTC, AVID and ASB) sports and take leaderships roles!
• Study hard and do well in school to be competitive when applying to college –this is the time to aim for the 3.5 to 4.0 range!
